Taveuni Diving
Taveuni is one of Fiji's top diving destinations as it provides easy access for scuba dive trips to the world-class Rainbow Reef. Taveuni has magnificent diving spots, beautiful white sandy beaches and panoramic views around the island. The nearby islands of Qamea and Matangi each have fringing reefs, and more reefs can be found at the Ringgolds and Yanuca Island. There is another large reef structure at the south-western end by Vuna.
Taveuni is a destination for tourists that look for nature-based experiences beyond the sun, sand and sea of the other islands. Bouma Forest Park is community managed (funded by NZAID) that is aiming to be on the World Heritage List. It offers Waitabu Marine Area for snorkellers, mountain and coastal walking treks, ecotourism grants funded accommodation, and waterfalls.
Some of the most popular diving operators include Aqua-Trek (at Garden Island Resort) that is closest to the reef, the locally-owned Jewel Bubble Divers at Matei, and Swiss Fiji Divers (also at Matei). The latter operation, run by a Swiss-German couple, was sold to new owners in August/September 2007. Beyond Garden Island Resort, there is Taveuni Dive located at the Taveuni Estates (Soqulu) and at the far end of Taveuni near Vuna, Paradise Resort has its own on-site dive operation.

How to get to Taveuni
Taveuni is Fiji's 3rd largest island and found in the northern island group. View a map of Fiji. Most visitors fly to Taveuni from Nadi International Airport either with Air Fiji or with Pacific Sun. They each operate several flights in the morning and in the afternoon. Depending on your arrival time into Nadi, it may be necessary to overnight at a Nadi hotel before taking your onward flight. Some flights go direct from Nadi to Taveuni, about 1½ hrs or so, while many stop en route at Savusavu on the island of Vanua Levu after an initial 1 hr flight. The planes stay on the ground only a short time before taking off to Taveuni and land about 30 minutes later at the Matei airstrip. Both airports have sealed runways and the flights can give spectacular views of island coastlines and turquoise coral reef formations. Budget travellers may take the inter-island ferry, but since this involves travelling down to Suva from Nadi and then travelling 12hrs or so to Savusavu by ferry, loading and unloading, then an hour or so by ferry up to Taveuni, it is not that cost-effective and quite time-consuming.
Taveuni is called the ' Garden Island ' and is a rich paradise combining rainforests and reefs.
