Fiji Scuba Diving

Map of Fiji Dive Sites

There are around 60 dive operators in Fiji that operate in the Mamanucas, Yasawas, Kadavu, Beqa Lagoon, Vanua Levu and Taveuni. Many resorts offer diving tours to their guests. Divers traditionally favour Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Kadavu as diving destinations, as well as the Beqa Lagoon in Fiji's south. Another region containing spectacular dive sites is the Lomaiviti region (central Fiji) but these are more widespread and not as close to traditional resort destinations. As a result they are mostly dived only via liveaboards such as the Nai'a. Fiji is keen to further promote Ovalau and the Mamanucas as diving destinations also, as both regions have much to offer.

Fiji's dive industry is well established, has an active dive operators' association, and offers professionally-run dive shops in many areas. Safety is of importance and there is a professionally-run decompression chamber in the capital of Suva.

Fiji is often called the 'soft coral capital of the world' and many dive sites provide vivid and brilliant displays of these attractive organisms. Colourful reef fish, pelagics, sharks, rays and even whales (seasonal) provide a wide variety of diving opportunities. Though not as well-known for wreck diving as some parts of the South Pacific (such as Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands), nevertheless there are some, mostly purposely sunk, providing vibrant marine life communities to explore. Shark feeding dives can be found in certain regions also, and these are much-enjoyed by adventure divers.

Fiji tourism provides various tours and activities all around the nation for visitors. Nature based activities and tours such as trekking, bird watching, waterfall tours, cave tours, site seeing tours, or adventurous and sporting activities such as surfing, rafting, canoeing, tennis, golf, sailing, yachting, kite surfing, wind surfing, cycling, ocean swim, snorkelling, fishing, jet boat rides, jet ski tours, sky diving, paragliding, hang gliding, rafting and kayaking are some examples. Scuba Diving is one of the top adventure activities and attracts divers world-wide.
